How to Stay Creative Under Pressure: Tips for Entry-Level Marketers

Marketing creatively is a vital part of business, but staying innovative under tight deadlines can be challenging. Here are actionable tips to keep your work and career flowing, even when the pressure is on.

1. Take Breaks - Create Space

Short, regular breaks can refresh your mind and improve focus. Step away from your desk, take a walk, or practice mindfulness to reset. This also includes scheduling leave. As young professionals we regularly can fall into the trap of hoarding our leave. The days of measuring our worth on how much you “overwork” are long gone and it’s helpful to shift your mindset here. Leave is there to support your wellbeing and you never know what new ideas can come into play when you create space.

2. Collaborate - Say YES

Two heads are better than one! Brainstorming with colleagues can spark new ideas and perspectives. If networking scares the living shit out of you, I totally understand. “Hi, I’m Tess and I’m a huge introvert.” Stepping out of your comfort zone to meet new people, ask for help or put your hand up for a new project are the moments that drive your role forward. Whatever is thrown on your plate, say YES! Don’t be afraid to ask questions and lean on your team for support where safe.

3. Limit Distractions - Set Boundaries

Create a focused work environment by muting notifications, setting clear work hours. Sometimes this is harder in reality but with so many moving parts, requests and personalities to navigate in our roles you need to be clear and kind around what, when, why, and how you need information. Remove the noise of your personal life, set boundaries and focus in on what you do best.

4. Stay Inspired - Keep Your Finger on the Pulse

Regularly consume content that inspires you. Follow industry leaders, read blogs, and watch creative campaigns to keep your ideas fresh.

5. Embrace Imperfection - It’s Okay To Fail

Remember, not every idea has to be perfect. Sometimes the simplest concepts lead to the most impactful results. Try new things, develop your skills in lanes that excite you and learn to have a thick skin. Not everyone is going to LOVE your work - and that’s okay. Always remember your art, designs, work or output is not who YOU are. Keeping a clear line between your craft and you personally will give you the ability to take on feedback and critique with curiosity rather than frustration. This skill will save your mental health!

By incorporating these habits, you’ll not only manage stress but also continue to thrive creatively in your marketing career.
